Leadership
School Advisory Council
Purpose
The Saint Michael Catholic School Board is an advisory board and follows the guidelines established by the Diocese of Charleston. According to the guidelines established for the Board in October 2004, the purpose of a Catholic School Board is to provide broad direction in compliance with the school’s mission, monitor school budgets, identify needs, develop the school’s strategic plan, and recommend policy. It is quite different from a public school board since its members are appointed, not elected, and it is not responsible for the school’s hiring or firing, discipline or selection of instructional materials.
Responsibilities
1. Review and recommend revisions to school mission and vision.
2. Assist in identifying needs and the best way to address them.
3. Contribute to short-term and long-term strategic planning.
4. Review and approve the annual operating budget.
