St. Michael Catholic School was built in 1999 as an integral part of St. Michael Catholic Church in Murrells Inlet, South Carolina, within the historic Diocese of Charleston. The school originally started with grades Kindergarten through Fourth, adding one grade each year.

The construction of new classrooms and the Science Lab were completed in September 2002, and the following year, St. Michael's served students through eighth grade. In September 2004, the Duffy Center opened and was named after St. Michael Catholic School's founder and beloved deceased pastor, Msgr. Duffy. The Duffy Center is used as a meeting space for the church but also a gym for the students.

In August of 2005, Hanley Hall was renovated and became Hanley Library and Media Center. The Media Center offers state of the art technology, valuable resources, and plenty of meeting space for students to learn and interact.

Chompy, our school mascot, became a special and integral part of our community in October of 2006. In September of 2008, Gator Field was blessed by Fr. Ray Carlo.

Also in 2008, St. Michael's became known for its robotics program, open to grades four through eight, utilizing science and mathematics as well as computer programming to compete along with other schools throughout the Carolinas.

In December of 2009, parochial vicar, Fr. Andrew Trapp entered the PokerStars.net Million Dollar Challenge. Fr. Trapp was successful in winning $100,000 which he donated to the building of the new St. Michael Catholic Church, which was dedicated on August 17, 2012.

In 2013, St. Michael Catholic School invested in state of the art technology including Ipads and Google Chrome books that the students utilize to their benefit as they advance in their education.

The final smartboard was installed in 2014 allowing students of all grades to benefit from the advanced technology.

The 2016-2017 and 2017-2018 school years showed the excellence of our athletic program here at St. Michael. In 2017, the Lady Gator varsity basketball team became the runner-up state champions in the diocesan basketball tournament. Likewise, in 2018, the varsity boys basketball team became runner-up state champions.

The 2018-2019 school year marked the 20th anniversary of St. Michael Catholic School! We look forward to many more years of excellence in faith formation and academic education!
